Wow, what an adventure, Karen! That sucks about the thief, but so smart of you to have your purse strap crossed across your body. I hope you see your Buddha necklace again someday, but maybe it'll be the thing that turns the thief's life around. You never know! I'm just glad you're okay and everyone treated you so well. And, hey, a new reader!

Thinking of you!!

This is so cool. They're always having parades in Peru. Those people know how to party!

Arequipa was the one place my dh and I couldn't get to on our 3-week trip last year, that we wanted to go to. I don't know how you managed the 16-hour bus ride. We had to do 7 hours to get from Lima to Nasca, to fly over the Nasca lines. I believe that bus continued to Arequipa, as well. We met people from tour busses in Nasca who were continuing on.

Are you going to the big canyon that's near there? On our way home, we had to fly from Puno to Arequipa to Lima and then to the U.S. and then finally Canada. So we saw one of the volcanoes from the plane (saw the crater) and caught a glimpse of the canyon where the condors fly. Looked amazing.

Karen, wow, that was close! It sounds like except for the thief you are having a marvelous time. Hope the rest of the journey is wonderful, but not dangerous! Thanks for keeping us up to date...

Love the pictures and the description. Absolutely stunning. So sorry to hear about the thief; but the Arequipa response is wonderful. There are thieves everywhere. My big question is which book are you sending the policeman? Which one was he most interested in reading?
